Trivia: The weapons store featured in the film was never a part of the Monroeville Mall. George A. Romero shot those scenes in a gun shop in downtown Pittsburgh and edited the footage in to make it look like it was a shop in the mall.
-Extras who appeared in this film were reportedly given $20 in cash, a box lunch, and a Dawn of the Dead T-shirt.
-When the film was first released, the shooting budget was reported to be $1.5 million. On his commentary track on the "Ultimate" DVD release, producer Richard P. Rubinstein admitted that amount was inflated for foreign buyers, and the actual budget was around $500,000 (including deferred lab fees and Rubenstein and director George A. Romero deferring much of their salaries).
Goofs: Stephen tells Fran to meet up on the roof of WGON at 9:00pm because they are going to run. They meet Peter and Roger at the police dock in order to refuel. As the chopper takes off, we see a large office building in the background. In the lower right-hand side of the screen is a digital clock, the type of one would find outside a business to inform people the time and temperature. It reads 6:00.
Review: Dawn of the Dead is a sequel to the cult classic "Night of the Living Dead" and truly does the original justice. You can really identify with this movie, it plays out just as life probably would if an outbreak of "zombies" ever really occurred. Four people held up in a fully stocked shopping mall, with a built in gun store, a bank full of cash, an arcade, and a skating rink.....is just about the perfect place to be to barricade yourself from ghouls. The gore and zombies are great, the plot is decent, the acting is meager........overall I think its definitely worth checking out if you have never seen it. This is probably one of the best "zombie" movies of all time. Do not judge the remake of Dawn of the Dead to the original they are very different and I feel the remake did not do the original justice.
Yes they are remaking Day of the Dead, another Romero zombie classic and YES they cast Nick Cannon in this dreadful remake. What is Hollywood thinking??
Ving Rhames will also be joining the cast as Captain Rhodes.
